Placement Success Stories

I was a sales executive at a large financial services industry, looking to make a change to a smaller firm where I could make an impact in asset management or retirement plan consulting. I had worked with a number of different recruiting firms in the past, most of which simply looked at my prior job titles and tried to fit me into the next rung of the corporate ladder. So, that's what I expected when I spoke with a consultant at Hollister. However, the recruiting specialist was more interested in what my real skills were, and more importantly, what I wanted to do for a living rather than simply which jobs I might "match."  Hollister helped me find a firm that was a great match for not only my skill sets, but also for my personality. I think that was possible only because of Hollister's deep understanding of their client firms' people and cultures, not just which positions they have to fill.

Ultimately, Hollister helped me find, and then negotiate, a managing director position with Sapers & Wallack Advisors, a small independent firm that provides investment advisory services to corporations and individuals in the full array financial planning, asset management and retirement consulting. The position fully uses my prior experiences, yet it is an exciting challenge that I would not have found simply by looking for a "fit" with my prior positions. The smaller firm position requires me to be involved directly in a whole range of opportunities that I just would not get at a larger firm -- from compliance and operations to investment research, portfolio management, marketing, sales and client service. It is exactly the kind of high-impact, high-visibility job that I dreamed about.

As we have looked to grow at my new firm, I have found Hollister's approach to finding new employees to be unique.  Their recruiting specialists are industry veterans who use their networks to key people and firms in my industry to find interesting, smart, successful people who actually fit with my organization's current and future needs. And, in most cases, the job applicants aren't out actively looking for a new employer, which means, as an employer, we often get "first crack" at the highest caliber talent before they are "on the market."  This is incredibly valuable, since as a financial services business, having the best people translates into the best services for our clients.
