We are seeking a capable and organized, experienced Financial Assistant to join the team of one of the finest University's biology center in the Cambridge, MA! This is a temporary position with the possibility of becoming permanent for the right candidate, and it starts immediately.
The ideal candidate will be very detail-oriented, with solid finance and accounting experience and strong MS Excel skills.

Support a large portfolio of faculty research funds, selected core facilities, and special programs.
Research portfolio includes federal, industry, foundation, and university funds.
Core facilities may include the department teaching labs and glassware and sterilization facilities; special projects; graduate student support/hourly student payroll; and others as they arise.
Assignment of research portfolios, core facilities, and special projects is rotated periodically in order to build a broad base of knowledge and experience.
Responsibilities span account set-up to close-out; authorizing expenditures; reviewing/verifying travel reports, invoices, and credit card transactions; overseeing personnel and non-personnel expenditures
Developing monthly forecasts using in-house application and participating in periodic meetings with faculty PIs
Preparing procurement documents; processing and monitoring accounts receivable; reconciling accounts; identifying and resolving discrepancies; and maintaining files.
Will also serve as liaison with other department staff, faculty PIs, lab members, vendors, and University central offices as required.
High school diploma or its equivalent
At least three years’ financial experience, preferably in an academic environment
Experience with database and spreadsheet software, preferably FileMaker and Excel
Demonstrated aptitude for learning new software
Initiative, excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills; attention to detail
Ability to manage a variety of tasks concurrently, research and resolve discrepancies, exercise sound judgment, anticipate needs, work independently and as part of a team, and remain flexible as situations demand
Discretion and diplomacy with confidential information/issues.
PREFERRED: Bachelor’s degree; knowledge of standard federal regulations, major agency guidelines, and Tableau; experience with University financial systems, particularly B2P, BrioQuery or Cognos, Concur, GAP, and SAP/SAPgui.
